in case of emergency

At a glance

Save the name of the people to contact in an emergency under the code ICE in your mobile phone's contact list.

The purpose of ICE is to save, under the code ICE in your mobile phone's contact list, the name of the people to contact in an emergency.

ICE: a useful tool in an emergency

ICE stands for “In Case of Emergency”.
If you're the victim of an accident and are no longer able to use your mobile phone yourself, the emergency services on the scene (ambulance crew, firefighters, police…) can check your phone and find, in the contact list under the letter “I” for “ICE”, the name of a contact person you've saved there who should be notified urgently. You can save two or three ICE numbers in a row (for example under “ICE1”, “ICE2”, “ICE3”, …) with the phone numbers of the people to contact.

In case of emergency: simple and effective

This method is known and used in several countries and allows paramedics, doctors or the police to quickly call a relative of the victim, instead of having to scroll through the alphabetical list of the mobile phone's contacts.

This simple principle has already considerably improved the help given to victims, and has even saved lives when it comes to quickly obtaining medical information about the injured person.

Have you already added an ICE number to your mobile phone?
