La meilleure assurance voyage pour un Erasmus

Can I still go on Erasmus?

Given the strange times we are currently living in, the big question is: “Will my Erasmus still take place?” For now, the answer is: “Yes, as long as the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs allows it and the country you are travelling to has not imposed an entry ban.” Keep in mind that in some countries, you will need to observe a quarantine period at the beginning of your stay.

Going on Erasmus safely?

Are you going on Erasmus this year? It is the perfect combination of studying in a new environment and broadening your view of the world by meeting new friends. It is a big step as a student and undoubtedly an enriching experience for your future life. Do you want to study abroad safely? Then be well prepared and make sure that an accident does not get in your way!

Here’s how to prepare properly for an Erasmus exchange!

Are you excited to leave? Keep in mind that spending several months abroad as part of an exchange programme comes with certain responsibilities. You will need to study and adapt to a new city and a new culture. With these 5 tips, you can prepare for Erasmus student life and enjoy a rewarding, worry-free experience:

Make sure your administration is in order

Find out in advance about any administrative requirements. Living abroad often involves paperwork and formalities. If you can prepare the necessary documents beforehand, you are likely to encounter fewer problems once you arrive.

Create an emergency information card

Keep a card in your wallet containing your emergency information: allergies, medical conditions, blood type, intolerances, etc. This can be extremely useful in the event of an accident or illness and can help emergency services respond more quickly.

Check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website

The Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs offers an online service for Belgians travelling to a country outside the European Union. Register before you leave via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. If a serious crisis occurs in your host country (natural disaster, political crisis, etc.), it will be easier for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform and assist you.

Make sure you have a network of friends on site

If you are sociable, you already have an advantage. Making new friends will help reduce homesickness, make it easier to integrate, and help you learn the language more quickly. In addition, you will have people nearby you can rely on if a problem arises.

Ensure you have adequate medical coverage abroad

Healthcare abroad is not always of the same quality and can be very expensive. A good travel insurance policy can help cover medical expenses incurred abroad. This is especially important if you are going on Erasmus outside Europe. The type of coverage you need will vary depending on the length of your stay.

Do my parents already have an annual travel insurance policy? Do I still need to take out additional assistance coverage?

That depends on how many consecutive months you will be away. If you are staying abroad for more than 3 consecutive months, we recommend our travel insurance Long Trip. It is the only assistance policy that covers trips lasting more than 3 months. If your Erasmus stay lasts less than three months, or if you plan to return to Belgium from time to time, your parents' annual assistance policy should be sufficient. If they do not yet have assistance coverage, we recommend the travel insurance Smart.

What happens if I catch Covid or get sick while I’m there?

If, unfortunately (let’s hope that doesn’t happen), you fall ill or become infected with coronavirus, you remain covered. Redion has a worldwide network of hospitals and doctors. In the event of illness, you simply need to contact our assistance service. They will help you find the nearest medical support. Your medical report is sent directly to Redion so that our doctors can review it and decide whether repatriation is necessary. Of course, this depends on the nature of the illness and local regulations. Please note that if you are infected with coronavirus, you will be required to quarantine. The duration of the quarantine varies from country to country. We always recommend carefully following local health regulations and safety measures.
