Insurance policies are full of specific or complex terms. Discover the terminology used in Redion's contracts.
The assistance and trip-cancellation insurance policies offered by Redion Belgium (annual or temporary travel assistance contracts, or NoGo trip-cancellation cover) contain a lot of technical or insurance-specific terms.
A well-understood assistance contract means a more relaxed trip.
By knowing and understanding the terms used, you'll better understand your cover and feel more confident.
The sole aim of this short glossary is to make it easier for policyholders to understand the cover and clauses involved, without replacing the official definitions.
The explanations below are given for information purposes only. For exact, legally binding definitions, please refer to the General Terms and Conditions of the contracts.
A short glossary of the terminology used by Redion

The difference between Assistance and Insurance
Assistance steps in during an emergency: breakdown, accident, illness, theft, etc. It organises and takes care of the practical help needed (repatriation, breakdown recovery, accommodation).
Insurance reimburses costs according to the specific conditions set out in the policy taken out.
Exclusions
Situations or events not covered by the policy.
Optional extensions
Cover you can add on top of the base policy (e.g. for business trips, luggage insurance, a higher reimbursement ceiling, etc.).
Medical expenses
Healthcare costs (abroad) covered by the policy (consultations, hospitalisation, etc.).
Excess
The amount you remain responsible for, not reimbursed by the insurer.
Cover
What your policy actually covers.
Immobilisation
An incident that leaves a vehicle unusable.
Redundancy
Loss of employment for economic reasons related to the company.
Illness
A sudden and unforeseeable change or deterioration in health, confirmed by a doctor, requiring medical care. Under trip-cancellation policies, an illness immediately makes it impossible to go ahead with the trip.
Cancellation option
Optional cover that lets you be reimbursed if you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason.
Tour operator / Rental company
The organisations you booked your stay or trip with.
Excluded countries
Countries or regions not covered by the assistance policy.
30-day waiting period (NoGo contract)
A 30-day period after taking out the NoGo contract. During this period, no cancellation cover can be activated, except if the contract is renewed or the trip is booked after this period.
This waiting period doesn't apply if the contract is taken out at the same time as the trip is booked.
Ceiling
The maximum amount covered by the insurer.
Time-barring
The deadline after which a claim for compensation is no longer valid.

Policyholder
The person who signs the contract and pays the premium.
Dangerous sports

Dangerous sports are among the exclusions.
See the definition and description given in the contract's exclusions for more detail.
Subrogation
The insurer's right to recover the amounts paid out from a liable third party.
