The traveller has changed

50 years ago (and more), thanks to paid holidays, Belgian tourists developed a taste for travel.

They enjoyed the mild charms of their own coastline, or set off on an adventure along the new (motor)ways towards the Mediterranean in search of sunny beaches.

Since then, times have changed and a great many things are different: better road infrastructure, a wider range of transport options, the rise of tour operators and "low-cost" airlines, mass tourism at affordable prices, increasingly accessible far-flung destinations…

Some travel as a family to well-known places where they have their habits, others prefer exoticism and adventure, and others still set aside their holiday time to practise their favourite sports.

More recently, thanks to new technologies, travellers can book their trip, accommodation and activities in just a few clicks. They find most of the information they need in apps downloaded onto the smartphone they carry in their pocket or backpack. Thanks to social media, they stay permanently connected with family and friends, with whom they share their experiences and good tips.

Redion adapts

Observing these societal changes and these fundamental shifts in travel behaviour, and drawing on more than 55 years of experience in travel assistance, Redion has created a new approach to the market and now offers a new range of modular, competitive annual assistance products tailored to every type of traveller.

5 new travel assistance concepts

In addition to temporary travel assistance products, vehicle assistance and cancellation insurance, 5 new annual assistance products have been created. Each of these products can be taken out with "Europe" or "World" geographical coverage.

Light: essential travel assistance cover at a light price

The Light plan is aimed at travellers who take short trips abroad (periods of up to 14 consecutive days) and who are looking for essential assistance services such as reimbursement of medical expenses (up to €250,000), and repatriation and early return.
This plan is offered at a very competitive price. However, it excludes activities on snow (e.g. skiing, snowboarding) or ice.

Smart: comprehensive travel assistance cover

The Smart plan is designed to meet the expectations of most travellers, namely those who want comprehensive travel cover for stays of up to 3 consecutive months in Europe or elsewhere in the world.
It includes a wide range of assistance services, such as reimbursement of medical expenses abroad (up to a maximum of €750,000 for European cover or €1,250,000 for worldwide cover), medical repatriation, early return, compensation in the event of trip interruption, search and rescue costs, provision of money abroad, winter sports cover...

VIP: extended assistance cover plus cancellation insurance and baggage insurance

The VIP plan also covers trips of up to 3 consecutive months in Europe or elsewhere in the world and includes the full range of travel assistance services. It also includes trip cancellation insurance and baggage insurance.
It provides unlimited medical expense cover, repatriation and early return, compensation in the event of trip interruption, search and rescue costs, provision of money abroad, assistance cover for winter sports activities, a Car Damage Waiver...

Sport: assistance cover for sports enthusiasts who also want to cover their luggage

The Sport plan is comprehensive assistance valid for trips of up to 3 consecutive months in Europe or elsewhere in the world, and also covers travellers' personal luggage and sports equipment.
It provides unlimited medical expense cover, repatriation and early return, compensation in the event of trip interruption, higher cover than the other plans for search and rescue costs, provision of money abroad, assistance cover for winter sports activities…

Long Trip: long-term travel, study stays, extended stays in the sun…

Finally, Redion has also developed "Long Trip", a plan designed for travellers taking a trip of more than 3 consecutive months (and up to a maximum of 364 days) in Europe or worldwide. Think globetrotters exploring the world, students on an Erasmus exchange abroad, or seniors spending long stays in a sunny country.
This plan offers cover suited to this type of traveller: reimbursement of medical expenses up to €750,000 (European cover) or €1,250,000 (worldwide cover), repatriation, early return and return to the place of origin, search and rescue costs, provision of money abroad, cover for snow or ice activities...

A wide range of options

As long as they aren't already included in the plan chosen, the Light, Smart, VIP or Sport products can be enhanced with useful options: cancellation insurance, baggage insurance and/or mobility assistance.

Mobility assistance covers breakdowns and roadside assistance in Belgium and abroad, offers a solution for continuing your trip abroad, provides assistance for (electric) bicycles or other light means of transport in Belgium, and the option of getting a replacement vehicle in Belgium.

This way, every type of traveller will find the assistance plan that suits them best.
