With the right preparation, pregnant women can travel safely. Even so, there are risks that are important to take into account.
The best time to combine travel and pregnancy
Even though the best time to travel varies from one woman to another, the second trimester of pregnancy (from week 14 to week 28) is generally the best period for long-distance travel.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, certain discomforts such as nausea and fatigue can make travelling less pleasant. And, in the third trimester, sitting down generally becomes less comfortable due to the discomforts of pregnancy (swollen legs, frequent bathroom breaks, etc.). Long journeys then become considerably more complicated, especially if the pregnant woman is the driver.
Take your precautions
If you have medical concerns (high blood pressure, diabetes), if you have medical complications during your pregnancy, or if you have already given birth prematurely, we recommend asking your doctor's advice before setting off on a long-distance trip.
