Redion conducted a survey to find out about Belgians' concerns regarding IT issues. Here are the findings.

More than one in two Belgians fear a computer virus or the complete crash of their computer!

This is the finding of a survey* conducted by Redion among 1,003 Belgians as part of the launch of its new IT assistance service "Safe & Connected". Successive lockdowns forced a large part of the population to increasingly use digital tools to communicate, browse and shop online, or to work and study remotely. A growing number of users has therefore turned to digital solutions. Video conferencing has become the preferred form of communication. In light of these new trends, Redion looked into Belgians' digital habits and offers a solution to the issues identified.

Survey: Belgians and their IT concerns

Since the successive lockdowns, 3 out of 10 Belgians have been working remotely. 87% of them say they want to continue this practice once the COVID-19 crisis is over. At the same time, the survey shows that Belgians are strongly concerned about their IT insurance coverage. This trend is especially visible among people under 35, 16% of whom hold additional insurance on top of the cover provided by retailers to protect their electronic devices, in particular their laptop (44%) and their smartphone (50%). Above all, users fear computer viruses or the complete crash of their device, leading to data loss (54%), data theft (37%) and password theft (33%). Those who depend most on these devices also fear not having a replacement device when theirs stops working (16%). It's also worth noting that 59% of the population worries about their children's safety when browsing the internet freely.

Overall, Belgians say they have very good IT skills (51%). Yet 41% of respondents who have faced an IT problem say they have already needed outside help to deal with it. One in ten has additional cover for their electronic equipment (smartphones (6%), laptops (5%) and desktop computers (3%)).

Redion's solution: Safe & Connected

To respond to these new trends and to the concerns of device users, Redion is launching its new product "Safe & Connected". This IT assistance service covers all the devices in a household, allowing users to stay connected or reconnect as quickly as possible, and to resolve many IT issues.

* Survey conducted between 2 December and 17 December 2020 by Incidence for Redion among 1,003 Belgians, forming a representative sample of the population. Survey conducted online using a semi-closed, structured questionnaire. Maximum margin of error of 3.1%.
