A new website from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lets you register when you take a long-distance trip.
Every year, 9 to 11 million trips are made from Belgium abroad. Among travel destinations, some don't always offer a guarantee of safety. Others aren't immune to a disaster or severe weather or serious incidents (earthquake, flooding, hurricane, tsunami, volcanic eruption, nuclear accident, other serious incidents, ...)
In order to be able to act preventively or respond as quickly as possible when there are Belgian victims among those affected, the authorities (consulates) need to be able to locate Belgian nationals on the ground as quickly as possible.
Register to be located, informed and helped by the Belgian authorities in the event of a major problem
Belgian travellers heading to a country outside the European Union can now register on the "Travellers Online" website https://travellersonline.diplomatie.be/ run by the Federal Foreign Affairs department (FPS Foreign Affairs). Thanks to this registration, the local consulate will know they are there and will be better able to inform and help them in the event of a major problem.
Registering only takes a few minutes. Simply sign up on the site and enter your national register identification number, your contact details, mobile number, an emergency contact, your insurer (travel assistance), and of course where you're going on holiday and the dates of your stay.
This data is deleted two weeks after your stated return date.
