How do you request technical assistance for your vehicle?
If you're stuck on a public road: get to safety first
- Turn on your hazard warning lights and try to stop somewhere that blocks traffic as little as possible and where you (and any other passengers) can leave the vehicle safely;
- Put on your hi-vis vest before getting out of the vehicle and get any other passengers to safety as quickly as possible (if you're on a motorway, stand behind the crash barrier). Make sure passengers also put on a hi-vis vest;
- Warn other drivers of your vehicle's presence by setting up the warning triangle.
- Given they're used less and less, some motorways (toll-free ones) no longer have emergency phone posts. In that case, make sure you have a working mobile phone (and check the battery).
- On motorways where emergency phone posts still exist, they're usually spaced 2 km apart. They connect you directly to an emergency call centre. In some countries, including France, this centre will automatically send the breakdown service that is the only one authorised to work on the stretch of motorway where you're stuck. This service will tow you to the nearest motorway exit, from where you can call your assistance company. In an emergency, you can reach the emergency services or the police by dialling the emergency number 112. This number works in every European Union country. Tip: the SOS Autoroutes app lets you call the motorway emergency service in France without having to find an emergency phone post.
Contact Redion
- If you've downloaded the Redion mobile app, it will locate you immediately. All you'll need to do is indicate the type of breakdown, and you'll be able to track your request and the arrival of the tow truck live.
- If you haven't downloaded the Redion mobile app: pinpoint your location as precisely as possible (municipality, road number or name, kilometre marker, direction of travel, address, street number, …), contact Redion or ask the emergency services to notify Redion. Give us the following information: your name, contract number, your most precise location, and your mobile number. Note: check in your contract that you do have vehicle cover under the assistance plan you've taken out.
- If your vehicle breaks down in your home country, we'll take it, if necessary, to the garage of your choice in line with the contractual terms of your assistance contract. If you're abroad, we'll direct you, if necessary, to a local garage/dealer.
- If your vehicle needs to be brought back home, we'll return it to the garage of your choice based on the local garage's diagnosis and in line with the contractual terms of your assistance contract.
- Hand the keys to the garage and leave the vehicle's documents inside it. Never leave valuables in your vehicle (camera, computer, jewellery, money, …).
- Are you stuck on a Belgian motorway? Read here about the procedures that apply (including the FAST procedure used on the motorway network in Flanders).
Good tip: Download the Redion app (click here). It lets you make an immediate breakdown request or request medical assistance.
Requesting reimbursement of any breakdown costs
- Send us the original invoices as soon as you get back. The balance will be reimbursed up to the limit guaranteed by your contract.
