Where to Find the Cheapest Fuel?

Cheaper fuel

At a glance

In which countries and regions is fuel cheapest, and how can you reduce your consumption?

Fuel prices have become exorbitant.
What's more, it's no secret that prices are lower in certain regions and in other countries (such as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg).

So where can you find the best price, and how can you use less fuel?

Where to fill up on your holiday route

1. Get informed and plan your route accordingly

When planning your route, take into account the transit countries where fuel prices are more attractive and plan to stop there to fill up.
This is especially true if you drive on LPG (autogas), for which filling stations are rarer.
Careful: make sure you have enough of a reserve to reach your destination in case you get stuck in traffic or have to take a detour due to roadworks or an accident! It's not uncommon to run out of fuel just a few kilometres from your arrival point.

2. Choose the right places to fill up

Petrol stations along motorways are often more expensive than those located off the fast roads.
Pumps that are part of shopping areas or hypermarkets are often the cheapest, but make sure you don't need a customer card to fill up there.

3. Don't put in the wrong fuel!

Redion has to intervene almost daily for motorists who put the wrong fuel in their car. So be very careful when filling up at a petrol station (or buying a fuel brand) you're not familiar with. Don't rely on the colour of the nozzle.
Also be especially careful if you're driving a car you're not familiar with (e.g. a rental car).

Note:
Diesel = "gazole" or "gasoil" in France and "gasóleo" in Spain.
In Spain, "gasolina" = petrol (leaded or unleaded)... Don't get caught out!

4. How to use less fuel

Adopt an eco-friendly driving style.
Your car's load, tyre pressure, use of power-hungry electronic components, use of air conditioning, and your driving style all directly affect your fuel consumption. Discover our tips for using less fuel by clicking here.
